Brigid Kelly,

Project Engineer I

Brigid Kelly is one of Kline’s Project Engineers based in our DC Metropolitan office. Brigid holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering with a Structures concentration from the University of Notre Dame, and a B.S. in Mathematics from the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio.

Born and raised in Manassas, VA., Brigid grew up in a large family of 12 siblings, an experience that filled her childhood memories with loud but fun moments.

Having a large family made a lasting impact on Brigid's natural problem-solver personality, a trait that ended up influencing her career path as a civil engineer. Excelling in math and physics in high school, combined with her love to use her talents to help people, sealed the deal on a career that makes a tangible difference in people's lives.

Brigid's driving force for her Structural concentration was her fascination for the built environment in all its forms, the Salginatobel Bridge in Switzerland being her favorite engineering feat. For Brigid, this masterpiece, designed by Swiss civil engineer Robert Maillart, is not only a reinforced concrete arch bridge spanning the Salgina Valley ravine but a great example of how structural innovation and engineering efficiency can translate into a beautiful yet functional form.

Before joining the Kline Team, Brigid worked for two years as a Facilities Engineer with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) developing scopes of work for a variety of construction projects at NGA’s headquarters. At Kline, she has designed concrete structures such as retaining walls and podium slabs with a specialization in post-tensioning design. One of her most challenging projects featured the new design of a large 2-way PT slab that was over 60,000 sq ft and had a lot of varying slab thicknesses and detailed loading, which made it more of a challenge to model. She is proficient in Risa 3D, ADAPT PT, ADAPT Builder, Bluebeam Revu, and AutoCAD.

Brigid is an active associate member of the Structural Engineers Associations of Metro Washington (SEA-MW). Last year, she delivered a presentation on advice to structural engineering students regarding entering the workforce at SEA-MW’s “The Next Step Forum for future structural engineers” hosted in Washington, DC.

When Brigid is not working, she enjoys traveling, doing puzzles, and spending time with friends and family, activities that along with her Catholic faith are her passions. She is an outdoor enthusiast who once went on a 17-mile hike in the Austrian Alps and has traveled to 9 countries. Her sister Rose, a devoted full-time mom and nurse practitioner, is her hero and the role model who has inspired her to fulfill both her career and personal life.

Brigid is bringing not only her strong academic background to Kline Engineering but also her people-and-detail-oriented drive to provide our business partners with a safe, efficient design that best serves their needs.
