URBANA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 Frederick, MD

SERVICES: WOOD DESIGN / STRUCTURAL EOR

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

As part of a major investment in modernizing public education facilities, our new division, Wolfman, provided structural engineering services for the new Urbana Elementary School, a state-of-the-art facility designed to serve students from Pre-K through 5th grade.

Located on a 19-acre site at 3544 Urbana Pike in Frederick County, Maryland, the new multi-story school replaces the original Urbana Elementary School, which was first built in 1960 and expanded in 1965 and 1975.

The new 98,200-square-foot building was designed to meet the community's evolving needs, with a state-rated capacity of 725 students. It incorporates energy-efficient features and was tailored from Frederick County Public Schools’ elementary school prototype, previously used for Sugarloaf Elementary School, with site-specific adjustments to optimize functionality and performance.

Design efforts began in 2017, with construction completed in time for the 2020–2021 academic year. The result is a dynamic, future-ready learning environment that honors the legacy of the original school while supporting the next generation of students.
