Freedom Tower

The Freedom Tower Restoration is a $25 million historic preservation project involving one of Miami's most iconic landmarks. Originally completed in 1925 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 14-story structure serves as both a cultural symbol and an architectural treasure.

The comprehensive restoration includes structural repairs, restoration of the historic cupola and ballroom, replacement of more than 350 historically accurate impact-resistant windows, and modernization of select building components. Due to the building's age and historic significance, temporary structural systems were essential to safely execute the restoration while preserving the integrity of the existing structure.

KLINE provided specialized construction engineering services, designing the temporary structural systems required to safely support the restoration while protecting the historic building. The firm's scope included the design of temporary shoring and reshoring systems for swing-stage scaffolding and roof-level counterweights, formwork and reshoring for new concrete slabs and beams, and engineered demolition procedures for existing slabs, beams, stairs, elevator shafts, and other structural elements.

KLINE also conducted field inspections and issued engineering certifications confirming that all temporary support systems were installed in accordance with the design, enabling restoration activities to proceed safely while maintaining the structural integrity of this historic landmark.
