GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE
Visitor Center Structural Design
Clarksburg, MD
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
KLINE provides full structural design services for the new Visitor Center at the Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park (Gan Zikaron). This nonprofit, inclusive cemetery has served the Jewish community across the DMV region since 2000. Located in Clarksburg, MD, the new single-story, 2,389-square-foot facility will include office and meeting spaces to support the Garden’s mission of offering a welcoming and peaceful environment for families and guests.
The building features 4-inch-thick Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) walls for enhanced energy efficiency, durability, and thermal performance. A steel roof joist system supports the roof, ensuring long-term structural stability while complementing the design intent.
Project Highlights:
As the structural engineer of record, KLINE’s responsibilities include:
Lateral analysis to confirm stability under wind and other lateral forces.
Reinforcement design for the ICF walls per system requirements.
Design of connections between steel roof joists and ICF wall assemblies.
Spatial detailing and reinforcement strategies to allow ICF walls to perform as internal beams when needed
At a height of 17.5 feet, the Visitor Center is an addition to the Memorial Park designed with structural resilience and community purpose at its core.
