Structural Engineer Intern
We’re Hiring a Project Engineer Intern — In-Person Role | Manassas, VA.
KLINE is looking for a Project Engineer Intern to join our growing DC Metropolitan office on-site. This is an immediate opportunity for someone ready to take the next step in their career and help design smarter, stronger, and more efficient concrete structures.
As a Structural Engineer Intern at KLINE, you'll work alongside a collaborative team of engineers on the design of commercial, residential, mixed-use, institutional, and parking structure projects, with a strong focus on innovative post-tensioned concrete systems. You'll assist with structural analysis, design calculations, drafting, and project documentation while gaining hands-on experience on real projects under the mentorship of licensed engineers.
This internship is ideal for a motivated engineering student eager to apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects. You'll gain exposure to structural design using concrete, steel, wood, masonry, and post-tensioned concrete while developing technical skills, engineering judgment, and professional confidence in a collaborative consulting environment.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Assist engineers with the structural design and analysis of commercial, residential, mixed-use, institutional, and parking structure projects.
Support the preparation of structural calculations, drawings, sketches, and design documentation under the supervision of licensed engineers.
Assist with engineering studies, reports, technical memorandums, and project correspondence.
Learn and apply applicable building codes, engineering standards, and company design practices to assigned tasks.
Assist with drafting and modeling using AutoCAD, Revit, and other engineering software as appropriate.
Participate in project meetings and gain exposure to project planning, coordination, and delivery processes.
Support construction administration activities, including reviewing shop drawings, submittals, and requests for information (RFIs).
Assist with site visits and field observations alongside experienced engineers and help document findings.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and design professionals to support project goals and deadlines.
Conduct engineering research and gather technical information to support project assignments.
Develop technical knowledge and professional skills through mentorship, training, and hands-on project experience.
Perform other engineering-related duties and administrative support tasks as assigned.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES
Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering.
Strong academic standing and interest in structural building design.
Coursework in structural analysis, steel design, concrete design, or related subjects.
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or structural analysis software is a plus.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and eagerness to take on new challenges.
Interest in pursuing a career in structural engineering.
