Structural Engineer I
We’re Hiring a Project Engineer I — In-Person Role | Manassas, VA.
KLINE is looking for a Project Engineer I to join our growing DC Metropolitan office on-site. This is an immediate opportunity for someone ready to take the next step in their career and help design smarter, stronger, and more efficient concrete structures.
As a Structural Engineer I at KLINE, you will work alongside a collaborative team of engineers on the design of commercial, residential, mixed-use, and parking structure projects, with a strong focus on innovative post-tensioned concrete systems. You will support both new building design and evaluations of existing structures, applying fundamental engineering principles to develop practical, efficient, and constructible solutions while expanding your technical expertise through hands-on project experience and mentorship.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Assist with the structural design of commercial, residential, mixed-use, institutional, and parking structure projects.
Prepare structural calculations, drawings, sketches, and design documentation under the direction of a Project Manager, Project Engineer, or Senior Engineer.
Support the design of structural systems using concrete, steel, wood, masonry, and post-tensioned concrete as applicable.
Learn and apply applicable building codes, design standards, and company procedures to assigned work.
Assist with construction administration tasks, including reviewing submittals, preparing responses to RFIs, and supporting site visit documentation.
Participate in project meetings and assist with follow-up items related to technical coordination, deadlines, and project deliverables.
Coordinate with internal team members to support the timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
Assist with condition assessments of existing structures and support the preparation of repair or strengthening recommendations.
Conduct site visits with senior team members as needed and help prepare field notes, reports, and technical memorandums.
Prepare clear, organized engineering correspondence, reports, and project documentation.
Take responsibility for assigned tasks, communicate progress, and ask for guidance when needed.
Continue developing technical knowledge, design judgment, and confidence through hands-on project experience and mentorship.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES
BS degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with an emphasis on structural design
1+ years of relevant structural engineering experience in building design preferred; internship or co-op experience a plus.
Familiarity with structural design software; AutoCAD, Revit, RISA 3D, RAM, ETABS, STAAD, Enercalc, or similar programs.
Knowledge of structural engineering principals, including concrete, steel, wood and/or masonry design.
Applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria with increasing independence, under the general supervision of a Project Manager or Senior Engineer
Familiarity with applicable building codes and design standards, such as IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, and NDS.
Methodical and organized approach to problem-solving and completing project requirements, working independently or as part of a team
Exercises sound engineering judgment and problem‑solving skills; appropriately seeks guidance when needed and proactively identifies potential issues
Takes ownership of assigned work and follows through to completion with limited oversight
Self‑motivated, driven, and interested in professional growth within a growing, entrepreneurial company
