The Arundel's structural challenges

In 2019, Kline Engineering & Consulting wins the “Excellence in Concrete” award from the Maryland Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI).

This award-winning project takes home top honors in the Mid Rise Buildings category (4-15 stories) for its design and construction of The Arundel, a 15-story apartment complex in Hanover, Maryland.

In this article, our team discusses the use and advantage of post-tensioning (PT) in challenging construction environments such as The Arundel’s, a 15-story apartment building that would never have been constructed had it not been for PT concrete.

The challenge? design-built of an innovative foundation transfer mat that spans two existing below-grade stormwater management vaults which take up more than half of the building footprint.

The Solution? To bridge over the vault with a 4 ft. (1.2 m) thick PT transfer mat.
