Starting with an abandon clothing factory warehouse in Mineral Wells, WV, Hino Motors Manufacturing USA began structural modifications to accommodate the installation of truck assembly lines. As part of their expansion plan in the Mountain State, the Japanese truck manufacturer retained Kline Engineering & Consulting to perform structural evaluations and design modifications of the existing post-tensioned slab on grade, built in 1996.

Kline's scope of work included the evaluation of the post-tensioned slab flexural and shear capacity against the demand needed to support the loading from the truck assembly lines. Additionally, our team provided subcontractors with guidelines and details throughout the process of cutting, re-stressing, and locking-off unbonded post-tensioned cables, along with the process of creating slab openings. These modifications allowed for the installation of concrete trenches and below-grade pits without impacting the original slab capacity.
