It was in the basement wall of the structure where the concrete strength was found to be below the required strength as specified in the contract documents. As a result, the shear strength provided by the existing walls was deficient. KEC conducted a force analysis for each of the affected wall regions, ranging from two to five spans, to determine the shear diagram and subsequently computed the additional shear reinforcement required. The supplementary reinforcement consisted of steel reinforcing bars, placed into drilled holes and bonded to the wall using an adhesive anchoring system. KEC’s solution allowed construction to continue without delay while ensuring the foundation is robust.
